چکیده

A new technology based on in situ underwater gamma-ray spectrometry of radon daughter products in water has been applied for groundwater–seawater interaction studies in the coastal regions of SE Sicily (offshore Donnalucata) and SE Brazil (offshore Ubatuba). The continuous monitoring carried out at the Donnalucata (and Ubatuba) site have revealed an inverse correlation between the Rn concentration versus the tides and salinity, as Rn concentrations in seawater varied from 2 kBq m (1 kBq m) during high tide to 5 kBq m (5 kBq m) during low tide. The observed variations in Rn concentrations are likely caused by sea level changes, as tidal effects induce variations of hydraulic gradient, which can increase Rn concentrations during a falling tide, while during a high tide, Rn concentrations decrease.

Environmental Gamma-Ray Observation in Deep Sea

Deep-Sea in-situ radioactivity measurements were initiated in 1964 for investigation of sunken USN atomic power submarine Thresher by using Geiger counters (Wakelin, 1964). Since then, in-situ radioactivity monitoring utilizing a towed-fish and/or remote sea bottom stations has been carried out in various countries. But they are mainly used for surveys of artificial radio activities to evaluate...

Optimization of measurement counting time in Gamma-ray spectrometry of soil samples

The method of optimal measurement counting time in Gamma spectrometry for soil samples was studied. Gamma spectrometry was done based on minimum detectable activity using the HPGe- p type with efficiency of 30% and FWHM 1.7keV (for 1.33 MeV 60Co). The samples were IAEA-RG Th-1, IAEA-RGU-1 and IAEA-RGK-1 prepared in bottles. The measurements were done for 12 different counting times from 5 min t...
